DC Collectibles ups the ante with the latest couples statue to grace the DC Designer Series. February 2020’s release featuring Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy is not only visually stunning, but it marks an important moment with its depiction of the line’s first same-sex couple.
Harley and Ivy have always been good friends, but their relationship has really started to bloom in recent years as the friendship turned into a relationship. Harley and Ivy are inseparable these days, and the newest couples statues celebrates these powerful women.
The statue measures just under eleven inches and was brought to life by sculptor Jack Matthews based on a design by DC Comics superstar artist Emanuela Lupacchino. Lupacchino has brought many iconic female characters to life across the DC pantheon, including Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Starfire and Lois Lane. Lupacchino’s influence can be seen in the way the two women are portrayed as being both strong and incredibly feminine at the same time.
As with so many creations from the DC Collectibles collection, the details in this statue are what make it so special. Ivy’s vines grow out of the black and white checkered floor, leaving cracked tiles in their wake. Ivy’s costume is intricately detailed with bits of ivy all over, and there are even leaves in her gorgeous flowing red hair. Harley’s fishnet tights and sleeves are made of actual fishnet material, and her short shorts feature bright glitter that make them sparkle in the light.
This depiction of Harley Quinn features the Clown Princess with normal flesh tones, save for her face, which is white. This was definitely a decision made when it comes to the design of the statue, but in a lot of ways it complements the bits of skin we see with Ivy. Poison Ivy is often depicted as either being green-skinned or she will be dressed in a full-body suit, so the exposed skin makes the statue immediately intimate and realistic.
What’s really stunning about the piece are Harley and Ivy’s hair, which flows so spectacularly it’s like you’re seeing this power couple frozen in an enchanted moment in time. Their hair is larger than life in the best of ways. Harley offers Ivy a rose, which we can only imagine leads to an eye-roll from Ivy, who would rather receive a living plant than a cut flower. Then again, Ivy is known to be very forgiving when it comes to Harley Quinn and her good intentions.
The DC Designer Series: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy statue is available in a limited run of 5000 pieces with a suggested retail price of $280.00 USD. You can shop online for this beautiful statue, or you can find it at your local comic shop.
