We all know how stressful 2020 has been and it has been a challenge for a lot of us to stay at home for months on end not knowing when we will get to enjoy normal life again.

But there are a lot of simple ways that you can still have fun at home and calm yourself down after a long and stressful day – that’s why today we are breaking down some of these things.

Here are some simple ways that you can enjoy your downtime at home and chill out after a particularly stressful day.

Read a great book

There is nothing better than a great book. From large hardback novels to graphic novels and comic books; you can escape to a whole new world as well as improve your memory and retention while relaxing at home this week. Settle down on your comfiest chair with a cup of hot chocolate, a blanket, and a lamp. Settling yourself down this way can be amazing and will be a wonderful way to wind down the brain.

Get drawing

If you are a creative person at heart and you have always loved to draw – now is a good time to break out your sketchbook and get sketching. It doesn’t matter how good you are at art – taking a reference picture and spending an hour sketching can be incredibly cathartic and you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve. If you are a little braver with your art supplies, consider bringing some colour to the mix with watercolours or inks.

Watch a movie

In winter especially, there is no better way to spend a Friday night than cuddling up on the sofa with a glass of wine, candles blaring, watching your favourite movie. To make your movie evening even more relaxing, get some snacks at the ready such as garlic dough balls, nachos and popcorn. You can even place some newspaper on your windows to fully black out the room and make it feel like a cinema!

Cook a warming meal

Cooking for some people might be stressful, but if you take your time and make an activity out of it it can be incredibly relaxing. Set up your laptop or tablet on the kitchen countertop with your favourite TV show and grab a glass of wine while you start to prepare your dinner. Enjoy the process of chopping vegetables, frying meats, and creating beautiful glazes. There are many amazing elements to cooking a dish – and once you’ve made your own naan bread you’ll never go back to store bought! The sense of achievement you get from cooking a delicious meal is immeasurable and it will make you feel happier.
