Welcome to Kings Comics

Kings Comics are easily one of the most recognisable brands and retailers in the Australian Comic Book scene today. With a storied history dating back to the early 1980s as a simple mail order business to the comic book retailer giant it has become in the modern day. It’s not surprising that Kings Comics is responsible for thousands of Australian collectors comic book” pull lists” every week.

Kings Comics stocks hundreds, if not, thousands of comic books on site at their Sydney based brick and mortar store. If that’s your cup of geeky tea then their collection of Pop Culture memorabilia is to die for. With hundreds of statues, action figures, badges, pins, magazines and books – it’s not surprising that’ll easily break a cool $100 when stepping through the Kings Comics doors and stepping back out again.

What to expect at Kings Comics

As a Kings Comics patron and former Sydney sider I am more than acquainted with the hallowed halls of their famous shop. Too acquainted, my wife would say. That said, when you first step through the Kings Comics doors there’s a surreal feeling that you’ve just stepped onto Australian Comics holy ground.

At first entry you’ll be given two decisions: do I head upstairs or do I go downstairs? Because the current Kings Comics entry is on street level and separates its assortment of Pop Culture goodies across two levels and trust me when I say you’re spoilt for choice.

On the lower level (basement, if you will) you will find hundreds of old comic book issues to flip through and score to fill that hole of your comic book collection. Last I was in there I saw comic book issues ranging from the 70s-late 00s. And they’re all pristinely looked after and cared for. Meaning if you’re in Sydney for a day or a Sydney sided in need of some high quality old back issues then look no further. Kings has it covered.

Up on the top level you’ll find a huge array of new comic books (old and new). Although mostly new comic book floppy issues, omnibuses and singular comic book volumes. Here is the level you want to head to if you’re after the latest issue from DC Comics, Marvel, Image Comics, BOOM! Studios or any of the other main comic book companies. What’s comforting is, in addition to the major players, you’ll find plenty of releases from local comic book creators sitting right next to their Marvel and DC Comics brothers and sisters.

You’ll be pleased to know that the staff on both levels of Kings Comics are friendly, eager to help, and extremely knowledgeable. There have been many times I’ve been to Kings and in need of a specific issue and a staff member is quick to drop what they’re doing to give you a quick helping hand.

Conclusion

Kings Comics is a fantastic store to find a wide variety of Comic Book and Pop Culture memorabilia. While catering to the hardcore comics collector with an endless supply of new issues and back catalogue, there’s also the feeling that when you enter Kings Comics you’ve just entered a well polished and smart retail business. There’s something for everyone at Kings Comics, whether it’s the latest issue or if it’s just a quirky item for your brothers birthday you’re looking to pick up, there’s something for everyone.
