Future Considerations Review
I’ll be the first to admit it’s been a long f***ing time since I’ve listened to any record that resembles the punk genre. Shamefully, I think At the Drive In’s Relationship of Command was the last punk album to pass through my 37-year-old ear holes.
Upon first listen I was relieved to hear an album that plays off like many punk bands of the early-late 90s. Future Considerations is far from past commiserations with many of its tracks sounding like they’ve been featured on a past Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack – even though they haven’t.
From the first track, 56, all the way through to track twelve, Next Door to Nothing, there’s an aggressively upbeat tempo that doesn’t let up despite the hilarious juncture of ballad Stalk in the Park. The lyrical content comes off as excitedly hilarious while the drumming barrage will make you search anxiously for the nearest circle pit.
The bass tone has a rough early millennial feel to it with an almost gritful exertion that has a way of finding its own voice in each and every track as it sings in the background like the bile at the back of a 95 year old’s throat. While the vocals are typical of what you’d come to expect in terms of style there is the echo of gang shouts to most of the choruses that’ll make you think that 90s punk rock was only 10 years ago. Surprise, old man, it wasn’t.
While my knowledge of Canadian punk rock label, Thousand Island Records is in its infancy, Trashed Ambulance has a style you could see yourself singing along to at a local dive bar or even a larger festival. This crazy trio of punk kids are certainly worth keeping an eye on.
