Based on Anne Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches, Mayfair Witches is an exploration of female power and the mortal implications of our decisions. Mayfair Witches focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon (Alexandra Daddario) who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches debuts on January 8th 2023 on AMC+.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches – Trailer Reaction
This trailer, from AMC+, captures the very look and feel that Anne Rice felt as she penned the very first chapter of the book of its namesake. Thanks to her iconic blue-eyed stare, Alexandra Daddario comes across as otherworldly, which is handy given the subject matter.
The trailer is a definite tease and it gives us a little bit of insight into the young neurosurgeon who Daddario plays. It’s an inviting premise which brings us into a supernatural world of witches and the occult. Although, it does seem to be missing that ever-present darkness that is felt throughout Anne Rice’s entire body of work.
The most interesting part of this trailer is it hints at a hidden gift of telekinesis as she’s able to manipulate the blood vessels in the office of what looks to be a hospital director – causing instant death. As the trailer progresses we get the feeling that a lot of the themes of this show will be about change, discovery and the eternal struggle of opposites: light vs dark and science vs supernatural.
The trope of returning to one’s home town, discovering there’s a hidden threat, not knowing who to trust – are all the making of a great episodic drama. If we’re to go by fan reactions of to the Interview with the Vampire TV show then AMC’s set to break a couple of records.
Verdict: Hidden, sinister and with a dash of sexy. It’s about time Alexandra Daddario got her own show!
