Disney+ Release Date
Disney and their forthcoming Disney+ are bidding to make accessing content much easier for the average consumer. Cue CEO Bob Iger rearing his ugly head to confirm those Disney+ rumours that have circulated ever since Disney bought majority share in Hulu.
Confused? Read on.
Earlier today Bob Iger, Disney CEO, confirmed that Disney will offer a discounted subscription plan that combines Disney’s three core streaming services into one bundle.
The bundle includes Disney+, ESPN+ and the basic on-demand version of Hulu. The bundle will be priced at $12.99 per month, a $5 discount versus subscribing to all three plans individually.
$12.99 just so happens to also be the price for a standard Netflix plan.
That’s right. Disney are twirling their metaphorical evil moustaches all the way to the bank.
When is this Bundle Available?
This bundled service will be available starting on November 12, 2019, the same day Disney+ launches in the US.
Disney acquired majority control of Hulu from Comcast in May 2019. At the time Iger said, “We are now able to completely integrate Hulu into our direct-to-consumer business and leverage the full power of The Walt Disney Company’s brands and creative engines to make the service even more compelling and a greater value for consumers.”
Because Disney+ won’t be including any R-rated content, bundling these services together makes sense on Disney’s part. However, it remains to be seen whether content from all three bundled services will be accessible from one, single interface.
Disney+ will include the entire Disney motion picture library, and be home to numerous original series like The Mandalorian and WandaVision. Like many of Hulu’s original series, The Mandalorian will release each of its episodes on a weekly basis, instead of opting for Netflix’s binge model. Meanwhile, the new Marvel shows will “directly affect” the MCU in a way previous TV projects haven’t.
Whether this means Disney+ will make a bid for the worldwide audience by making this deal available internationally remains to be seen.
