A New Phase in Darren’s Comic Collecting Lifestyle
Darren Hinchinbottom, 26, who has been spotted lurking at Kings Comics comic book store in recent weeks has taken to a new addiction. Switching to obscure publisher, Fantagraphics, Darren has ditched the $5 floppies for the more advanced thinking man’s Graphic Novels. We caught up with him for a quick chat about his new phase in comic book collecting.
“It makes perfect sense,” said Hinchinbottom. “I mean, these bloody American companies and their bullshit 22 pages for eight bucks is just criminal.”
He continues, “at least if I get a graphic novel it’s only forty bucks and I’ll get nearly 200 pages in the bastard!”
A comic book fan his whole life, Darren used to swear by the mainstream Comic Books of companies like Marvel and DC Comics. He rarely strayed far from the Big Two.
“Swamp Thing was the most out there comic I’d read til a couple of months ago. Now it’s all Fantagraphics and actual books. I read this Piskor comic about Gravity the other night. I just couldn’t put it down. Now I own 10 Cartoonist Kayfabe t-shirts!”
Hinchinbottom intends to continue his foray into what he calls “this new untapped and uncharted world of American cartoonists.” A world that has reportedly existed for decades.
“I don’t even like Hip Hop… but Hip Hop All Stars? Fuck yeah, son!”
We went searching for this “Gravity” comic and this is all we found.
MORE TO COME.
