A Living Nightmare of Alternate Version in Interference Pattern #5
Earlier today, Storm King Comics granted us an exclusive first look at John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction – Interference Pattern – Issue 5. Interference Pattern is created by writer/artist Dennis Calero and lettered by Janice Chiang. With the entire series overseen and published by John Carpenter and Sandy King.
Interference Pattern is about an experiment in faster-than-light travel which goes terribly wrong. Unintended side effects will drop pilot David Peeler into a living nightmare when alternate versions of himself start appearing, each one more deranged than the last. In this final issue, the jig is up. The military police are on their way to arrest David for the murdered staff member. All the Alt-Davids are completely unhinged. There’s only one shot left to right this wrong, but it’s risky. Can David pull it off?
The main cover art is by Tim Bradstreet and echoes the sentiment not just of this series but of the entire tone of John Carpenter’s body of work. While there don’t seem to be any variants on offer, that doesn’t matter to this writer, as the Bradstreet’s is haunting and will give you goosebumps from arm to arm.

First Impressions of Interference Pattern #5
Series writer and artist Dennis Calero has managed to summon the very demons that fueled John Carpenter’s early science fiction films and mold them into bleak pages of existential dread. The first five pages of Interference Pattern #5 look and feel like the kind of science fiction horror film you’d keep locked away from your kids.
Calero looks to round out a mini-series helmed by John Carpenter and Sandy King in a way that fills you with terror. You’ll be pleased you’ve survived reading this final issue at all. Pleased and foaming at the mouth for more.
