What is ‘Magic’ #22 about?

Desperate questions make reluctant alliances! Garruk the Wildspeaker agrees to work with the woman who once cursed him–Liliana Vess! Together, they must find Isona Maive before she finds an even more dangerous ally than Marit Lage or Tezzeret! Meanwhile, with the man Vraska loves, Jace Beleren, unsure if he’s hearing a voice from beyond the grave, they call on Kaya. Kaya may be the only Planeswalker who can slay a ghost, but she also pulled Vraska out of Jace’s arms in what might have been their final moments together.

And Kaya’s not any happier to see Vraska, who foreswore their friendship as thanks for Kaya saving her life. But if Niko’s right, someone is manipulating all their fates, there’s no time left for grudges.

Get Your Comic On

Another great piece of writing from Jed Mackay and this time he is supported in the writing with Rich Douek allowing the story to expand creating a darker adventure that could break the multiverse apart, with a story that has gone through a few different issues including a few off shoot ones it is great to see that it still feels fresh and hasn’t lost any steam along the way, with that in mind I am excited to see where this story arc will go from here.

Comic Book

the issue suffers from familiar problems for this series, with inconsistent artwork and plot elements that will be familiar to anyone who knows the recent arc of Magic‘s metastory. At least there is a sense of escalation as the stakes rise and the threats grow, creating the potential for spectacle. If this version of Magic: The Gathering is going to be, essentially, a superhero story in planeswalkers’ clothing, at least the potential for an appropriately epic climax is on the table.
