About ‘She Came From the Woods’

Eric Bloomquist’s upcoming horror-comedy ‘She Came From the Woods’ is hitting theaters America-wide on February 10th, 2023.

She Came From the Woods is a modern-day ode to 80s campfire horror nostalgia. When a bunch of group counselors accidentally unleash a decades old evil on the last night of summer camp, mayhem and madness ensues throughout Camp Briarbrook. Forcing the Camp Briarbrook staff to fight for their very lives.

If you’re at all familiar with the horror genre then you’ll be getting quite a few familiar faces and also some fresh ones. She Came From the Woods stars everyone’s favourite Stranger Things hot mum Cara Buono, William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey), Spencer List (Fringe) and Clare Foley (Sinister).

Joining them are Michael Park, Tyler Elliot Burke, Adam Weppler, Ehad Berisha, Giselle Torres, Dań Leahy, Sienna Hubert-Ross, and Emily Keefe.

The film is set in the year 1987 and from the trailer alone seems to indicate there’s going to plenty of slips, scares, and gore, not to mention teenager shenanigans.

Initial Reactions

Eric Bloomquist and Carson Bloomquist’s ‘She Came from the Woods’ plays out like a modern-day cover song to your favourite horror movies of the 80s. This 2 minute length trailer (when do we get trailers that long anymore?) gives us a quick crash course of this teen fuelled splatter fest this movie has set out to be.

While paying close attention to the usual tropes of summer camp counselor’s being the main course on this horror smorgasbord, the Bloomquist’s have taken extra care to tick off all the main aspects that make a horror movie as fun as they used to be. While at the same time saying no to the typical slasher character. Instead opting for a more supernatural boogey(wo)man who’s going to spend 90+ minutes carving through the characters.

The gore is adequate for a horror movie of this type but let’s hope there’s more practical effects and less of the computer generated ones. There’s no-sign of this movie trying to be anything greater than it actually is. Because sometimes we just need a gorey campfire set arena of death – which is exactly what ‘She Came From the Woods’ looks to be.

Fingers crossed.
