[NEWS] Spiderman Villain Casting Rumours With Jake Gyllenhaal In The Fray

Spider-Man, Far From Home, Avengers, MCU, Marvel Cinematic Universe

Jake Gyllenhaal to appear as Spiderman Villain MYSTERIO or is he?

With Venom slated for release and Spiderman: Homecoming sequel currently in production, the Spiderverse is poised to take over the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will mark Tom Holland’s fifth appearance as Spidey in Marvel’s cinematic franchise.

Spiderman: Homecoming featured a certain ex-Batman star, one Michael Keaton, as the egomaniac inventor Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture. Hardcore Spiderman fans will also remember one of his henchmen, Mac Gargan (aka The Scorpion), in a post credits sequence. This sent Spidey fans into a frenzy at the possibility of a ‘Sinister Six’ movie.

Rumours have circulated that Jake Gyllenhaal would play another member of the ‘Sinister Six’ villain stable. As none other than the egomaniac Mysterio. Ever since then our Spider senses have been tingling.

A new interview with French publication L’essentiel appears to see Gyllenhaal speaking about the role for the first time. Roughly translated back from French he said:

“The idea of heroes and superheroes is… important, especially in the world around us

“I don’t want to talk politics but… we need heroic acts in our everyday lives.

“I love the way Marvel Studios are approaching Avengers because they’re not afraid to upset the established rules. That the superheroes are of different sexes and colours of skin, it gives a strong message to young people.

“I can’t tell you much about the plot of the next Spider-Man, but Tom Holland is a young comedian.”

All Marvel cinematic boss, Kevin Feige, has said on the matter is; “Let the speculation begin.”

Neither a confirmation nor a denial, the speculation shall continue. All we know is the upcoming Spiderman: Far From Home film will begin mere minutes after the conclusion of the Avengers 4 film.

Spiderman: Far From Home release date is set for July 5, 2019 in the USA. Release dates for other territories are yet to be announced.
