About Cristabel
For those who missed it: American comic book writer, editor, and letterer, Erica Schultz, best known for her work on X-23 and Moon Knight will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for her newest series, CRISTABEL on March 28th.
Cristabel follows the story of a princess-turned-mercenary who works as a bounty hunter after being banished from her father’s kingdom ten years earlier. She travels among the Six Territories in search of something to kill her sorceress stepmother, Queen Geraldine. Along the way, Cristabel is reunited with her mentor, Wasiun, a disgraced knight from her father’s court, who was dismissed when he stood up to the queen. As the old friends catch up, we learn that Geraldine has set the bewitched Leoline on the path to war with a neighboring territory.
Hoping to rescue her father from the ill-advised war, Cristabel and Wasiun are joined by Roland, a charlatan with some real magic abilities. Together, the trio searches for the shaman who holds the key to killing Geraldine.
Based on the unfinished poem Christabel by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, this graphic novel in three volumes is part Arthurian Tales, part The Witcher, and part Bridgerton; as this sword and sorcery-lite story brings a more diverse cast to the genre.
Working with Schultz on Cristabel is interior artist Amagoia Agirre (I Am Hexed) and editor James B. Emmett (Mad Cave Studios). The campaign will also have four covers to choose from by artists Natasha Alterici (Heathen), Fabian Lelay (Speed Republic), Skylar Patridge (Resonant), and Alison Sampson (Sleeping Beauties).
“The poem Christabel has been a favorite of mine since college, and I’ve always wondered where Coleridge would have taken the story had he finished it. In the meantime, I’m so thrilled to work on this adaptation with Amagoia and James. It’s really a beautiful book.”
The Kickstarter campaign will be asking for $10,000 USD to fund the first volume (of three) of Cristabel and send it to print.
