About ‘The Seasons Have Teeth’
BOOM! Studios are continuing their modus operandi of balancing licensed comic book titles with original properties. An MO they’re capitalising on with the release of Dan Watters (Home Sick Pilots, Lucifer) and Sebastián Cabrol‘s The Seasons Have Teeth.
In this four issue horror mini series, Watters and Cabrol have created a sinister drab, colourless world, in which the seasons bring change and judging by the cover art; the seasons also bring gargantuan kaiju-like monsters.
In The Seasons Have Teeth, Andrew, a retired conflict photographer, lives a life steeped in regret, pain, and sorrow. When the seasons arrive–each one embodied as powerful god-like creatures–everything for Andrew begins to change. As he risks everything to track down Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, he can’t help but hope that capturing the perfect picture of each will help him find his redemption…and maybe–just maybe–bring color back to his world.

Initial Reactions
While the concept designs by Sebastián Cabrol look innovative it’s the cover art by Qistina Khalidah, Duncan Fegredo (Hellboy), and Sebastian Fiumara (Lucifer) that really have me excited for this book. They seem to evoke an old-gods, kaiju-like amalgamation of new horrors that await new readers like myself. Which makes sense as they’re representative of the synopsis provided to us by BOOM! and give me a sense of everything I’m going to feel in this series: emotional, terrified, disgusted and chomping at the bit for the next issue.
It’s Duncan Fegredo’s two variants that have me in a bind – I just can’t decide on which to purchase. These really are nightmares made flesh. Let’s hope the visceral nature of the covers are echoed throughout the pages of the comic.

The Seasons Have Teeth #1 will be in comic shops in April 2023. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Kindle.
