Henry Cavill in The Witcher (RIP – Moustache)
Video game adapted film and TV is a touchy subject. Get it? Because you “touchy” your controller?
With melodramatic releases for combat heavy games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. To the ridiculous adaptation of Super Mario Bros in the mid-90s. I won’t lie – that release can go in the bin.
Interest dropped off in the early 00s with pop culture heavy films like The Matrix, Lord of the Rings and superhero franchises dominating the silver screen.
It’s arguable that what has brought the video game adapted Tv and movies back into the conversation is due, in part, to services like Twitch and Discord spearheading the video game craze. Cosplayers dressing up as popular video game characters at popular Comic Conventions. Gamer Coventions being televised. It’s a brave new world in the Gaming Community.
Thanks to this. Video games are just as important to Pop Culture as DC Comics and the Marvel Universe.
While it’s difficult to dispute the impact of mega game franchises like Fallout , Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed. One such franchise that has hit it big with success after success is WITCHER.
The Witcher, based off the Novel series of the same name by author Andrzej Sapkowski, takes place in a medieval fantasy world. Following the exploits of Geralt of Rivia, one of a few travelling monster hunters known as “Witchers.”
The Witcher has been picked up by Netflix for a series run and will debut on the streaming platform. With Henry Cavill (Superman, The Tudors) starring as lead character Geralt of Rivia.
Fear not – the Cavill moustache will not be included in this series.
